Claire Duncan’s work, Dialogs with the Anthropocene drew the attention of OPB’s Oregon Art Beat and they did a wonderful feature of Claire and her paintings.
Cathy Valentine, Encaustic Paintings
Using graphite & ink with encaustic, Cathy Valentine layers lines and colors with rich results.
Encaustic is a mixture of beeswax and resin. The artist works with it in a melted state incorporating pigment, oils, ink, collage, and more. This is a medium that lends itself experimenting.
Each layer is fused to the previous layer by heating it up to the melting point again.
Simultaneously tricky and satisfying to work with, this is an addictive material.
For Cathy it seems effortless; the result is a surface so soft and sheeny you want to touch it and layers of energetic marks and rich color.
