CLAIRE DUNCAN
Claire Duncan combines a professional designer’s understanding of visual vocabulary with an artist’s passion for the painting process. Painting in acrylics on hand-crafted panels, her work owes a great debt to her previous design career. Underlying her representational style is a constant dialog with the abstract. Claire’s bird and animal paintings seek to create a sense of empathy and emotion in the viewer, in addition to a sense of participation in the world of the creature. Loss of habitat is also a recurring theme. Informed by a love of the natural world coupled with more formal concerns of design and color, Claire's work evokes the solitary experience of beauty.
Claire’s work has been exhibited in the 2020 and 2022 Birds in Art exhibitions at the Leigh Yawkey Museum in Wisconsin where her piece in 2022 was purchased for their permanent collection and chosen as the exhibition poster. She is also a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists.
