As Ondrea describes, our society’s systems of oppression instill shame, self-doubt, and trauma, which is amplified in marginalized communities. Interested and motivated by this, Ondrea draws upon her personal experiences, cultural identities, and lore to create illustrations, sculptures, and installations that tell stories about the journey toward generational healing and acceptance of one's self.
Inside Look :: Wade Schuster
Consisting of fragments of material experiences gleaned from walks through the city, painting is a way for Wade to synthesize time and space while exploring philosophical language. Walking is one of those rare experiences where we can think, remember the past, and daydream about the future all at the same time. These thoughts, observations, memories, and experiences, some conscious and some unconscious, become intertwined, creating a new reality. As we walk the streets, with no destination in mind, we traverse in liminal space and it’s the liminal quality of that experience that Wade's paintings are responding to.
