ABOUT THE ARTIST

Judy Howard came to Ashland, Oregon with her family in 1966 and taught in the Medford School District until 1978. While employed as the Art Curriculum Specialist and with the help of a committee from the Rogue Gallery, she initiated the Artists in the Schools program which continues to be a successful program in the valley.

Following her passion to be a painter full time, she left the education scene and retreated to her studio. After many years of working with teachers, kids and the public, she felt isolated and one year later to provide a balance, she founded Hanson Howard Gallery in Ashland which has been promoting Northwest artists for 28 years. The Gallery originally opened in the historic E.V. Carter House in 1979 and in 1987 moved to the current location, 82 N. Main, adjacent to the plaza in downtown Ashland.

Judy continues to balance her time between the studio and the gallery and has at least one exhibit each year. She has received numerous awards as an artist and often serves as a juror for exhibitions throughout the state. Judy served on the Oregon Arts Commission for 12 years and is Past President of the Ashland Gallery Association.
